Cream Puffs

April 11, 2011

A month or so ago we were running short on time and didn’t have time to make a dessert to bring to a function. We stopped by Sam’s Club and bought some frozen min-cream puffs and mini eclairs. My 4-year-old, who rarely tries anything new, was spotted sneaking cream puffs throughout the function. A couple of days ago he asked if we could make some cream puffs. Today we finally did. I used this recipe. Only we made vanilla whipped cream for the filling using some vanilla syrup for flavor and sweetness. Next time I think I might add some strawberry or raspberry puree to the cream. I think that would taste wonderful with a chocolate topping.
My 4-year-old impatiently checked the oven waiting for them to bake then cool so we could fill them. He stuck with the entire process and then boxed most of them up and we delivered them to his dad. We saved some for his brother too.

Lost My Footing

April 8, 2011

I wandered off into the forest and there was this cottage with gum drop shingles…no, what happened was that baking became a chore and I became self-conscious and then I found a typo in my favorite card and I started to wonder if this is what I wanted to do.

I love to bake. I love to modify existing recipes and create new recipes. I’m not sure I like the pressure of selling them when taste is so subjective. So here’s what’s going to happen. I’m clearing out my inventory. Right now I think I have 2 things listed, I kind of dropped off the radar. In the next week or so  the packs will go up at a discounted price. After that this blog will serve as a posting place for things I’m working on or trying out. It will be dead sometimes and other times I expect it to be teeming with posts.   I go in spurts.

I’ll let you know when I get a moment to sit down and figure out what the new prices will be.

Take care!

Happy Holidays!

December 10, 2010

While we’re smack dab in the middle of cookie baking at our house, recipes will be shared even though most are probably already sitting in your recipe boxes, I wanted to offer a couple of things up for the holiday season.

The first is we’re going to have another Give Away starting this Saturday! This time we’re giving away a pack of all 10 of the recipe greeting cards currently offered. Watch for the last 2 cards to go up over the weekend, writing descriptions is difficult.  At what point does it become too much? LOL! Details will be posted tomorrow.

The second is starting Monday, December 13, Simple Jesstures will be offering free shipping on all orders. The promo will last until Tuesday, December 21. I’m trying to decide if I need to go the coupon route or stick with refunding shipping at time of purchase. More details will be posted over the weekend. Keep your eye out for them.

Also I’ve been posting links to various gifting ideas and finds up on the Simple Jesstures Facebook wall. Go check some of them out!

Hello Detroit!

November 9, 2010

I sent off some greeting card 4-packs today to the Motor City. They were commissioned for a lovely ladies luncheon. That’s not the name of the luncheon but I know at least one of the ladies is lovely so I’m assuming they all are.  I hope they enjoy their cards.  There was a small…issue that is being discussed with the printer. Hopefully it’s not an issue for the ladies.

As a bonus, I had my friend Amanda over at Stitch to Stitch make a half apron to go with the cards for one lucky lady. Amanda typically sews children’s clothes but I needed an apron and she asked me to make a cake for her daughter’s birthday so we traded. It worked out well. If you have a little one you like to shop for go check out her shop, she’s adding new things all the time.

Happy baking!!

Lesson Learned

November 9, 2010

I faced my first really “challenge” as a business owner today. I sent out a product that I was not 100% happy with. Odds are the recipient won’t mind very much but I do. It’s my name on the product. I provided a discount, I hope it helps and they don’t think it reflects how I feel about my business.

I had a big order to do, I will post more on that a little later, one that I was really excited about. In ordering a larger amount of cards, I was able to upgrade the card stock. I’m not sure if the card stock was the issue or the scoring but a larger portion of the cards in 2 of my new designs all cracked on the same corner.  I am currently discussing the issue with the printer. I am embarrassed.  I went with an unknown when I was down to the wire, I should have known better. I was trying to provide a better product.
